Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It is based on the belief that a “universal life force energy” flows through all living things, and that this energy can be channeled by a Reiki practitioner to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words “Rei” (universal) and “Ki” (life energy).
During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient’s body in specific positions to transfer healing energy. It is believed that this energy helps to balance the body’s energy fields (or chakras) and supports the natural ability to heal itself. Reiki is used to reduce stress, relieve pain, and promote relaxation and well-being.
While Reiki is widely practiced and valued in holistic healing communities, its effects remain scientifically unproven, and it is considered a complementary therapy rather than a medical treatment.
